Miguel Ricou was born at Oporto, Portugal, European Union (1972). He has got a clinical psychologist degree in 1997 (Superior Institute of Health Sciences (Porto) and a post-graduation in Bioethics (Porto University) in 2001. He is at present a master student in Bioethics at Porto University. He has been a fellow visitor at Gallaudet University, Washington DC in 1998. He is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Porto University, since 2000 (Bioethics and Medical Ethics) and the coordinator of the Ethics and Psychology Unit of the Department of Bioethics and Medical Ethics. 

He develops research in different areas concerning ethics and psychology, like the deaf culture and the deaf rehabilitation, ethics and addictive behaviors, and ethical principles in clinical psychology. He has participated at the following research projects: 1) Basic ethical principles in bioethics and biolaw EU – Project Biomed II – Centre for Ethics and Law, Copenhagen; 2) Debate on the definition of priorities in the health sector: Portugal – EU – Project Biomed II.

His postgraduate activities included the co-organization of several congresses, like the first, the second, the third, and the fourth National Congress of Bioethics, and seminars, like the first, the second, the third, and the fourth seminar on rehabilitation of the deaf children.

He has presented 51 papers (7 in international congresses) and published 14 full papers and 16 abstracts, namely:
